Part 4 - Journey to Wellness Series: Ways to Maintain Wellness

“Wellness is a connection of paths: knowledge and action.”

— Joshua Holtz

In the busy kind of world we live in today, maintaining holistic wellness can feel overwhelming. Balancing all the things on our plate is also a bit difficult especially when that plate is overloaded.

After knowing the things our body needs, it is now about surrounding yourself with a team of support to prioritize and maintain your well-being. This is not a journey to walk through alone. What we know about our brain and body is that it needs connection and that connection but only promotes brain development, but also builds resilience. We will dedicate this part of our series on our journey to wellness to talk about the simple ways to maintain realistic habits and develop healthier routines in exchange for our overloaded schedules.

Here are the things to remember while maintaining wellness everyday!

  • Integration. It can be difficult to maintain strict exercise routines and choose to live healthily while making sure that all our obligations are met. Balance feels like a theoretical word that we talk about but no one lives. So a different perspective is to choose an area of your life that is of the most importance paired with a personal core value and begin to integrate other aspects of life into that. Making sure that we give time to ourselves to relax and ponder between busy schedules can improve our productivity in a way we can't imagine. Prioritizing ourselves over work is not selfish, it is self-love.

  • Connect. Establishing good relationships is important for our mental well-being. Keeping and connecting with the people around us can help us relax while listening and learning from others' perspectives. Allowing ourselves to connect with others reassures us that there will always be people to learn from and grow with.

  • Active. Being active is not just good for our physical health. Studies show that it can improve our mental health as well. Yoga and meditation are some of the activities that we can follow. These kinds of routines do not require too much of our time yet have proven effective in easing pain and symptoms of mental health. Devoting 15 minutes every day may help lower our stress levels and improve our mood and health.

  • Engage. Engaging ourselves in the things that will make us feel better adds positivity to our life. Focusing on the good things rather than emphasizing the negative ones can improve our well-being. Paying more attention to the present time rather than overthinking about what future things might happen can positively change our perspective on life.
